Where it Comes From

The Sun Basin

The Sun Basin is a remote valley cradled in the mountains of Missoula, MT. Wind catches words, moments, and memories, sweeps them into the sky, and settles them gently into the basin, allowing us to gather them up as inspiration and present them to Botanie, our local soap making partners. Botanie then distills the memories, mixes them in small batches with gorgeous natural ingredients, and turns out bars of shampoo that are good for your hair and your soul.

    Not my favorite conditioner :(

    I’ve been using sun basin soap’s shampoo for over a year and absolutely love it! It was my first exposure to bar shampoo and went great. I got my conditioner as soon as I could, but was underwhelmed by my experience. It just takes me so long to get enough of the conditioner into my hair. It’s about double the amount of time that shampooing from the bar takes me. My hair is pretty thick so that may be a part of it. Afterwards, my hair does feel nice and smooth, but nothing special my liquid conditioner can’t also do in a fraction of the time.

    It doesn’t leak on my soap shelf in the same way my other soaps do which is nice for cleanliness. It smells great, but I don’t think I’ll be buying this again if there isn’t a formula update for easier lathering.

    Works great for straight hair

    Works great on my long, fine, straight hair. Can’t speak for other hair textures. Works similarly to the Kitsch conditioner bars. Lovely scent. I have the matching shampoo bar, nice combo.

    Much better than the Lush conditioner bar

    I found the experience of lathering this into my hair and rinsing it to be quite quick and pleasant, and much preferred it to the period a few years ago when I tried out the conditioner bar made by Lush. And after I exit the shower, my hair feels just as conditioned as with liquid stuff.

    (For context, I should say that my hair is fairly short.)

    Doesn’t smell as good as the shampoo.

    Solid conditioner and works well, but has a bit of an artificial scent to me that the soap and shampoo doesn’t have.

    Finally making the swap!!

    I have been wary of conditioner bars since shampoo bars never worked well for me before the ones at the Good Store. Happy to say this smells great, the bar keeps me from accidentally applying too much, and my medium length hair is still just as hydrated and easy to brush after a shower as with my old options! Honestly even better since it seems less weighed down. So glad to have these available as an easy swap to plastic free :)
