The Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) was founded in 1994 by Stephen Colwell, inspired by a deep reverence for coral reefs and the vibrant ecosystems they support. Since then, CORAL has grown into one of the world’s largest NGOs dedicated exclusively to coral reef conservation. For over 30 years, they have combined cutting-edge science with community engagement to reduce direct threats to reefs and promote scalable, effective solutions for their long-term protection.
Coral reefs support about 25% of all marine life, and they are currently being threatened. The Coral Reef Alliance aims to protect and restore coral reefs worldwide. Through actionable science, community led conservation and threat reduction, CORAL works to build strong systems that support long term recovery for coral reefs.
