The Sun Basin

The Sun Basin is a remote valley cradled in the mountains of Missoula, MT. Wind catches words, moments, and memories, sweeps them into the sky, and settles them gently into the basin, allowing us to gather them up as inspiration and present them to Botanie, our local soap making partners. Botanie then distills the memories, mixes them in small batches with gorgeous natural ingredients, and turns out bars of shampoo that are good for your hair and your soul.

    My long, curly, sweaty locks thank you

    Since COVID and the start of me working from home i stopped cutting my hair at all and let it grow. And when i say grow, i mean its gotten to my waist line. Its also medium thick and wavy/curly. Photo included for reference -

    At the start of this year a couple of my resolutions were to focus on buying responsibile products for everyday use, and to train for a triathalon. With all that hair and ALL that sweat i was skeptical of a bar, but curious.

    Y'all... im not exaggerating. Its one of the best shampoos I've ever used. It's strong enough to remove ALL my curly hair product build up and ALL of the sweat from the multiple workouts per day while still being gentle enough on my hair type. Super "cleansing" shampoos always stripped my hair of any moisture leaving my hair dry, frizzy, and prone to breakage. I never thought a bar could leave my hair this soft.

    The bar was about palm sized in person and a few inches thick. I originally thought the price seemed high, but its lasted me at least 2ish?-3 months already and i easily have another 6-8 months left of it. Cheaper then any special curly shampoo bottle ive ever tried with how long it lasts.

    Only part about using a bar for my hair that I had to readjust to, was taking the time to rub the bar and foam up the product then apply it section by section instead of just dumping globs of shampoo anywhere i needed it. I personally don't like rubbing the bar directly against my scalp. The process is a little more time consuming…

    Gets hair clean without plastic

    I bought this because it is plastic free, but I will be rebuying it because it's a great shampoo. The mint isn't too aggressive, and the does a great job getting my hair clean. I have curly hair and shampoo only once per week.

    Should I Stock Up?

    Perfect shampoo. Easy to use, perfect level of sudsing, easy to wash out, and has lasted for over 6 months! Yes, I have short hair but still!

    I get really awful dandruff to the point that I was using expensive medicated shampoo every other day to prevent itching. I tried so many alternatives. Switched to this and boom, no itching! Except that one crazy week where I couldn't wash my hair for 5 days, but still, amazing!

    Surprisingly wonderful!

    I'll be honest, I bought this to give it a try and support the projects this goes to, but I was pretty skeptical that I would like it. And now I never want to have to buy normal shampoo again. I love this bar so much and can't wait for it to run out so I can try the other scents! Rosemary mint is my go to though for many things, and this has been a winner.

    This has been so much fun to use, and it lathers so much better than any liquid shampoo I've tried! It takes a little more time to get it through my hair than liquid shampoo, but that has actually been really nice because I've been taking my time instead of just rushing through washing my hair, as it's not my favorite activity. It has lasted for quite a while, I honestly can't even see it going down despite using it for months now at least once a week. Well worth it all around.

    Really Nice but Intense Scent

    I love your shampoo bar - mine has lasted well over six months, since I only need to use it about once a week and it's super concentrated. My only complaint would be that the mint smell was very strong. I remember the first time I used it, my eyes started to water and get that cold minty feeling from the intensity of the scent. Based on at least one other review and your response, I think this may be something you've already addressed, especially since the website says this is a subtle scent. Since my current bar is finally starting to break down, I just bought the Bloom scent instead and am excited to try it out.

    My only other comment is that using the bar took some time to get used to - it changed the texture of my hair slightly, and the application is of course different from a liquid shampoo. But I love it now that I've gotten used to it! Thanks for making such a sustainable and quality product!
