The Lazy Person’s Guide to a No-Waste Kitchen

Shortcuts to an Eco-Friendly Home| By Kelly McGilvery

At the end of the day, I barely have the energy to wash dishes and tidy up the kitchen, much less worry about doing it in an eco-friendly way. I’m looking for some low-effort ways to keep my kitchen clean while not contributing unnecessary chemicals to the environment or packaging waste to landfills. Here are a few ways that Good Store and EcoGeek can help.

Pair tablet-based cleaners with reusable containers

One of the hassles of keeping cleaning products in the kitchen is that you often have to toss out or recycle containers when they’re empty and replace them with new, full bottles of cleaning products. All Purpose Cleaning Tablets and Eco-Friendly Glass Cleaning Tablets can be used and reused with the glass EcoGeek Spray Bottle. The tablets come in an efficient, economically sized and easy to ship container, reducing the shipping cost and material waste. The full suite of tablet cleaners also includes Eco-Friendly Bathroom Cleaning Tablets to make all your home cleaning easier.

Replace paper towels and sponges

One of my most wasteful kitchen habits is using single-use paper towels or crumbly sponges for nearly everything, so I’m trying to replace those with better products. Swedish Dish Cloths have been a great replacement for paper towels when cleaning countertops or dusting - and they’re more absorbent. Each one replaces 17 rolls of paper towels.

The EcoGeek Scrub Brush is a fantastic multi-use tool made of 100% natural materials that pairs great with EcoGeek Solid Dish Soap for washing dishes and glassware. You can use it on so many other surfaces, including countertops and cutting boards. It’s great for cleaning fruits and vegetables and even for scrubbing out stains in laundry. The natural bristles are great for scrubbing difficult food debris or dirt stuck in crevices. For difficult-to-reach spots, such as inside tall glasses or the far side of the bathtub, there’s also a Long-Handled Scrub Brush.

No-waste dishwashing detergent and dish soap

I love the EcoGeek Solid Dish Soap for washing dishes by hand - there’s something about it that smells so clean and natural and is able to clean even the most stubborn grease out of takeaway containers. It leaves dishes clean and fresh and glasses streak-free. The EcoGeek Soap Saver is made of poplar and keeps your dish soap high and dry to ensure your soap lasts as long as possible - and adds a bit of functional art to your sink.

For dishwasher use, though, I like the Eco-Friendly Dishwasher Tablets and Dishwasher Powder. They’re able to cut through dirt and oil and make dishes sparkling clean, without harmful chemicals. They’re kept in a compostable pouch that’s kinder to the environment than a plastic tub.

Make the whole enterprise easy on yourself by building a bundle

Whether you’re just getting started with EcoGeek or trying to make sure your habits last a long time, Building a Bundle is always a great step toward continued success in your no-waste kitchen. Choose the products you use for cleaning, dishwashing, and scrubbing. You’ll save 10% off your order if you select between 2-5 products and 15% if you select 6 products or more. Select the frequency with which you’d like to receive them - subscribers receive an additional 10% off their bundle price. Plan it right, and you’ll always have replacement products when you need them.
