We’re ringing in the fall with September’s Awesome Socks artist

The leaves are just starting to change, which can only mean it’s just about time for September’s Awesome Socks & Undies artist, Fruitblush (any pronouns), to share their design! FRUITBLUSH is a self-described “artist who finds joy in drawing animals and the strange beauty of the natural world”. We’d have to agree 100%, no bones about it!

An Interview With Awesome Socks Club's September Artist

In a sentence, how would you describe your work?

Usually I just say I like drawing animals.

What are some of your favorite themes to work in?

I’m drawn to the quiet cycles of the natural world, usually the spaces where life and death blur together. I often return to the Law of Conservation of Mass, the idea that matter can’t be created or destroyed, only changing form. From this I continually return to themes of extinction, conservation, and the traces animals leave behind.

What mediums do you work in?

Primarily digital, though I often scribble out traditional sketches that never see the light of day. I also enjoy working with linocut, fabric, and clay when I want to make something with my hands.

Can you talk a little about your design process? Where do you draw your inspiration from, and how do you workshop your design from draft to final?

The final [for this design] has come very far from the initial draft; it started as a 'luck' theme with the design elements, then grew from there.. It kind of just evolved with what I thought would be the most interesting thematically.

Do you have a favorite feature of your sock design?

The skeleton :)
