Why This Product

Evensong Chai

Evensong Chai is a wonderful way to end your day. The natural sweetness of the rooibos base creates a soft palette for the kaleidoscope of spices to mix and mingle. Cinnamon leads the way, followed by dark clove, and ethereal cardamom. Bright bursts of black pepper and cayenne light up the mouth, making every sip an experience to savor. Try it out.

Where it Comes From

Red Tea

This rooibos is harvested in the Western Cape province of South Africa, where the plant is endemic. The deep roots fix nitrogen in the soil and encourages other plants growing in the area. If caffeine isn’t your thing, rooibos is a great replacement for tea with deep, earthy notes and a honeyed finish.

Where the Money is Going

Tuberculosis is the deadliest infectious disease of all time. In honor of John Keats and the billion people who’ve died of TB in the last two centuries, 100% of the profits from Keats & Co will fund tuberculosis testing and treatment through a new program with Partners in Health.

Good Flavors but a bit too sweet

I don't like sweet tea taste, like licorice root and it taste a bit like it even if there is none added. I like the flavors nonetheless but this blend is not for me.

    My nose knows no better

The strong flavours do not overpower the more subtle notes of rooibos that this caffeine free tea can provide. It brews well with a good tolerance for high and medium tea temperatures and infuses well with solid, flexible and disposable tea straining in cups, thermoses and teapots; though unstrained drinking is inadvisable as this tea has large floating particles which are unpalatable to consume directly. A removable tea strainer is recommended as this tea can serve a second of third steeping, this also allows you greater control over the strength of the drink you would prefer which is a strong feature of this tea over it's "actually made from the tea plant" cousins.

The opinions of non-professional tea drinkers subjected to the reviewer's teatimes is that this is a floral and cozy option with a wide appeal suitable for visiting family who want to go to bed after a long day travelling without being hyped up by regular tea.

Personally and some say eccentrically, when I am finished with my teapot brew of Evensong Chai, I dry out the teabag on the windowsill and once dry empty the results into a little cup on my desk as a small, for a second life as a delicious potpourri that I can smell throughout the day as I work.

Not exactly chai, but pretty good!

As an Indian person who grew up making fresh chai everyday, this feels somewhat familiar and somewhat unfamiliar. I love that lemongrass is high on the ingredients list, but I pretty perplexed to see cayenne and black pepper on there at all. However, these two unconventional spices aren't very noticable; maybe they offer more of an undertone. And to get the strength of actual chai, you would need to use double the recommended amount of tea leaves. Regardless, I can tell this tea is high quality- I can drink it without any sweeteners, which is quite a feat! And as someone who grew up drinking chai (and can no longer consume caffeine), I LOVE that there's a decaf option out there for me. Overall: not exactly authentic, but great quality. Try it with some oat milk!

Much love to the Good Store / Green Brothers & the causes they support. Photos attached are of the tea brewed per package instructions.

    Sing, savor

Would recommend as an accompaniment to choral evensong, or to soothe after singing.
