How To Use Your Overflow Candle Co. Refill Cups

Remove the refill from its cup

Remove the lid.

Gently squeeze or pull the sides of the paper cup to break the top of the wax away from the edges, if needed. All you need is a little crack, all the way around the circumference.

Turn the cup over so it’s upside-down in your hand, and put a little pressure on the bottom
of the cup to pop the candle out.

Alternatively, tear the cup away. This may actually be more difficult, but also
maybe more fun.

Drop your refill into a container

Pair up a candle with a container labeled to fit its size, drop it in with the metal tab on bottom.

What if the candle is slightly smaller than the vessel?:

These are designed to burn to the edge over long burns, but the nature of this wax is to burn slowly. It could take several hours to burn to the edge, especially the first time.

Once it burns to the edge, the wax may start to spill out onto the sides and fill the gap. This is ok! It’s why we picked specifically-sized vessels – the wicks we test for in the final sale vessels will be able to account for the full width. We want no more than about 1/4” of gap to make sure they’ll perform even in a variety of styles.

When the candle burns out

Option 1: Pop the candle into the freezer for about an hour. The wax will pull away from the edges of the container. Flip it over and gently tap the container on a surface to remove the extra wax. If there’s any extra on the sides, you should be able to easily scrape it off.

Option 2: Fill the vessel with near-boiling water (~200 F) to melt the excess wax to the top of the container. Allow it to cool again, and you can pop the puck of wax out of the water. It might take a couple of rounds to get it all, but should leave you with a clean vessel.
