Surviving the Spin Cycle

3 Products That Make Laundry Day Less Loathsome | By Malikai Smith

I can wash dishes until the cows come home. I love a sparklingly clean toilet, so I’m no stranger to gloving up and scrubbing down. I’ll bust out the vacuum and throw in my headphones, and at that point, it doesn’t even feel like a chore. You know what does feel like a chore? Every. Single. Time? Laundry. I disdain it. I always have, and at 31, I wouldn’t wager the midlife crisis I’m about a decade or so short of is going to manifest in a sudden love for the laundry room. I’ll probably stick to the classics - buying a motorcycle and getting a toupee. There I’ll be, 50 years old, (fake) hair blowing (dangerously) in the wind as I ride my new chopper and think about how little I want to do laundry.

Back to reality. As little as myself and so many others like it, it’s just one of those things we have to do. However, modernity is nothing if not plum full of options. Let’s talk about some handy-dandy options that can get us laundriphobes spinning and tumble-drying with a little less misery. First on my list: Green Llama’s alpaca dryer balls. Let me tell you why. I’ve got a dog (hair), a cat (hair), a wife (hair) and I’ve already got no patience for laundry. So imagine my dismay if I were to open the dryer lid to find my clothes covered in hair and as wrinkly as my brow, furrowed in a laundry-induced rage. That’s a risk I’m not willing to take. That’s why the dryer balls are a must. They create a static guard that sends hair to the lint trap and not your clothes, and prevents wrinkles from forming faster than you can say “why didn’t I fold my clothes sooner, why am I like this?” Bonus points for the Pavlovian response you have when you use these and think about the hilarious and cute alpacas they come from. Thanks, alpacas.

Next, a prophylactic. Before you’ve even made it to the laundry room, sometimes a garment-related crisis rears its ugly head when you least expect it. We’ve all been there. You’re feeling good, you’re feeling confident, and then, like Icarus in your hubris, you take that sip of red wine or you twirl that fork in pasta sauce and BOOM. Red stain, meet white clothing. It’s a story as old as time, but hope is not lost. If you’ve got a Soap Stick by Meliora, you’ve got yourself a second chance. Just wet your stained cloth, rub it with the stain stick and lather your way to redemption. If you’re like me, this is more a necessity than an accessory.

Last but not least, this Oxygen Brightener is the secret to reversing the clock on some of your favorite quilts, pillow cases, blankets and bedsheets. My main aversion to laundry is the doldrum. Week after week, shirt and sock and brief, my goodness. It’s the repetitive, boring, endless cycle that gets me. What I don’t mind at all is breaking that tedium by busting out those crisp, lightweight white sheets just in time for the summer heat, and getting them washed and brightened back to pristine condition. Breathable white bedding, looking and feeling as fresh as the day you got it with the A.C. or fan cooling your bedroom to the perfect sleeping temperature in the summer months? Come on. Now you’re speaking my language.

It was never going to be easy, but I hope I’ve illustrated that there are ways to make laundry day more bearable. Good Store has everything you need to stop the spin cycle from sending your head spinning and all profits go towards coral reef restoration and protection. Things are looking better already.
