Introducing: Creature Comforts Pet Shampoo Bars
Making Your Pet’s Bathtime A Little Easier | By Kelly McGilvery

The saddest face that’s ever been made in my house is my dog’s when she’s getting a bath. As a result, pet baths are my least favorite chore, but they come with the biggest payoff: a happy dog who smells great. Sometimes dogs roll in something dead or smelly or just plain get muddy, or they have allergies, and the only thing that will help get rid of allergens is a fresh start with a bath and clean fur. While cats are pretty good at keeping themselves clean, they’re no strangers to hijinks that require bathing.
Leave it to the folks at Good Store to make even this chore easier, with a new product for pets: Creature Comforts Pet Shampoo Bar. It’s available in two options: Kindred, a scent-free pet shampoo bar, and Roam, which is lightly scented with chamomile. These pet shampoo bars are made by Botanie, who also make Good Store’s Sun Basin Soap. Proceeds benefit the Maternal Health Center of Excellence in Sierra Leone.
Every time I give my dog a bath, I wonder: surely there is a more effective way of doing this. One that doesn’t leave me covered in water and suds, feeling guilty for inconveniencing my dog and making her feel wet and miserable. But this pet shampoo bar really does make the process easier (and likely, quicker).
A handheld shower fixture is going to make bathing your pet much, much easier. If you don’t have one at home, consider visiting a local pet store that offers pet bath stations for rent.
Gently hose down your pet with warm water. Get your hands wet and suds them up with the pet shampoo bar. Gently work the suds through your pet’s fur, being sure to get the nooks and crannies (underarms and paws). Add more soap as needed, massaging it throughout the fur. Rinse off your hands and use the shower handle to rinse your pet, beginning with the back and head and making your way downward. Be sure to rinse the nooks and crannies, then towel-dry gently. Your dog will likely lose its mind at this point. Mine always does, rolling around on nearby towels, carpets, and furniture. It’s a delightful moment that not everyone gets to experience in life, and that’s why we’re pet owners! (Who rescued whom, etc.)
A tip: If you need to distract your pet during bath time, try smearing a treat on the wall of the bathtub or shower for them to eat while receiving their spa treatment. You may find success with peanut butter or Cheese Whiz-type mixtures. It’s not enough to earn their forgiveness for the indignity of a bath, but they may temporarily forget why they’re upset.
If you have pets, stay tuned. This is the first product we’re rolling out in Creature Comforts, our new pet products line, but more new pet care products will be announced over the next few months.
