Coral Reefs Are Not Doomed

How your everyday cleaning product choices make an impact. | Good Store

“The greatest threat to coral reefs might be the idea that there is nothing we can do to protect coral reefs.”

- Hank Green in his Earth Day Video from 2025 (Interview with Heather Starck of Coral Reef Alliance)

How EcoGeek Came To Be

We’re a little over a year into the EcoGeek product line at Good Store. As it’s Earth Day today, April 22, we’re feeling all kinds of sentimental over how this idea took shape—and how it’s made significant waves of impact on our pale blue dot.

It all started with a simple idea: what if we make it a little easier to find high quality, eco-friendly alternatives for your household chores by curating the best of the internet and partnering with innovative entrepreneurs offering truly great products, and then we give all our Good Store profit from this product line to actively support the pioneering conservationists over at the Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL)?

Our favorite Eco-Geek, Hank Green, was especially interested in supporting the work in Maui Nui, drawn to the science behind the connection between land and water. The CORAL team in Maui Nui is building the scientific foundation for culturally grounded conservation efforts.  In a recent blog article, CORAL shares that, “Good decisions start with good data. Without understanding where sediment, nutrients, and pollutants enter the ocean, restoration efforts can miss the mark.”

Earth Day Can Feel Overwhelming

Earth Day can feel so big when you look at it as a whole, but most of our lives aren’t lived in big moments. It’s also lived in your kitchen or your laundry room; it’s lived in the everyday choices you make to keep your home (and your home planet) clean.

You don’t have to do everything; maybe for this Earth Day, it’s all about doing something—and letting that something grow.

From all of us at Good Store, we wish you a Happy Earth Day!
