ASC’s December Artist is our resident dragon tamer and coffee connoisseur—meet Georgia here!

This month at Awesome Socks Club, is excited to spotlight Georgia Henderson (she/her), the story artist and cartoonist whose vibrant character and cartoon work, as well as her webcomic Sun Princess, have earned her an impressive creative following. Georgia’s Decmber design captures her signature sense of quirky worldbuilding and a little bit of luck, making these socks a standout for winter.

Hi! In a sentence (or two), how would you describe yourself?

I'm Georgia Henderson, a Story Artist and Cartoonist, she/her! 

In a sentence, how would you describe your work?

Cute, tough, with perhaps a drop of tomfoolery.

Do you have any favorite themes you enjoy working with? 

I find doing illustration a bit difficult, so having a story or strong character idea helps me a lot to generate ideas!

What mediums do you like to work in? 

I like sketching and inking on paper as much as possible. It makes me feel closer to doing art and playing as a child!

If you were an environmental storytelling skeleton, how do you think you'd be found?

Perhaps a single arm holding a gooseneck kettle, forever brewing a pour-over coffee.

Do you have a dream project you'd like to work on someday?

There have been rumblings about an animated Twilight show. Pick me, I am your strongest soldier.

What drew you to the imagery of your sock design? 

I wanted to make a weird little guy, a chubby mischievous sidekick. I think he may have ended up a bit too cute, but I'm a fan.

Can you talk a little about your design process? Where do you draw your inspiration from, and how do you workshop your design from draft to final? 

I find a blank page for an illustration to be harder than anything, I've got no ideas! I have to think of a story or a strong character to have any hope for anything that's not a series of images haha.

Do you have a favorite feature of the sock design? 

I like that the win and loss are on either side of the ankle!

Ankle or crew socks for preference? 

For a while, crew socks were uncool. I think as an adult I've freed myself from the pressure and wear the nerdiest crew socks any chance I get.
