Teal Sather

I’m a freelance animator living in Minnesota. Recently I’ve been trying to find more places in the physical world to display my art.

In a sentence, how would you describe your work?
It’s all about having fun!Do you have any favorite themes you enjoy working with?I enjoy working with any motif that involves motion, so living things like plants or animals are a favorite of mine.

What mediums do you like to work in?
Typically I work with digital media since it’s the quickest way to animate. I also love using a pen and sketchbook to doodle when I’m out n about.

As an artist, are there any tools that you would perish if you left the house without them?
I like to keep a Canson XL sketchbook and a Micron pen on me pretty much anywhere. Also some cheap Ikea markers if I know I’ll have time to sit down for a while.

If you were an environmental storytelling skeleton, how do you think you’d be found?
On top of a mountain inside a giant bird nest.

Do you have a dream project you’d like to work on someday?
I really want to animate an official music video for a famous musician.

What is the strangest/goofiest (PG) fact about yourself that you’re comfortable sharing?
My idle pose is usually some kind of dance, especially if there’s music playing nearby.

What drew you to animation on the medium of a sock?
I’ve always loved both animation and fashion, so I’ve been thinking for years about how to merge the two. This felt like a great opportunity to try it out!

Can you talk a little about your design process? Where do you draw your inspiration from, and how do you work shop your design from draft to final?
For this particular design, I actually started out by animating the rabbit and then using all the frames to make the final illustration that you see on the sock. Usually I start out doing the most fun part first, and then go back to refine it into

Ankle or crew socks for preference?
Crew socks all the way! My ankles get cold easily.
