Why This Product
We've all been there - Elbow deep in suds and juggling a wet plastic dish soap bottle that leaks a little bit and leaves a giant mess on your counter. It's no fun, which is why EcoGeek is cutting out the plastic, cleaning up the counter, and offering this high-quality solid dish soap. It cleans your dishes just as well and eliminates excess mess and waste. Try it out!
Where it Comes From
The EcoGeek Solid Dish Soap is made by our friends over at Botanie soap in Missoula, MT. Botanie is a small batch, boutique soap maker that uses high quality and all natural ingredients to make luxury bars.
Where the Money is Going
EcoGeek is giving 100% of profits to the Coral Reef Alliance, specifically the Maui Watershed Restoration project. The Coral Reef Alliance tackles the complexity of coral reef die-offs by working in and out of the water. The Maui Watershed Restoration project is a land based project to reduce sediment runoff that blocks sunlight from reaching the coral reefs of Hawai'i.
With the kids moved out, we no longer have to do entire sink's worth of dishes anymore, which makes this pretty much perfect for us. We just keep a sponge damp and rub it on the block. I had an old soap dish that I've used for it, and I actually like the puddle of melted soap in the dish for soaking into the sponge for doing the dishes. One of our kids moved back in and they admired the setup, as they usually were by themselves in their apartment, so having access to just a tiny bit of dish soap for the few dishes they had to do was perfect for them.
It works really well to clean my dishes! Smells nice and gives the kitchen a very clean smell. I use it with the brush and also my Scotch Brite scrub sponge because its convenient size and shape makes it easy to use with any kind of cleaning implement. I also have the soap block and the soap cube sticks nicely, so I can use the brush or sponge and cover them with enough soap without even moving it. Seriously, I love it! Admittedly I'm a little obsessed because it smells and works great, and I can order these via subscription so I don't have to search them out of worry about re-ordering anything.
I am so used to liquid dish soap that I never thought about using a bar to wash the dishes. I have been pleasantly surprised though! I use it with my favorite Scrub Daddy sponge and it sudses up nicely and cleans my dishes well. I do find I need to reapply to my sponge slightly more often than when using liquid detergent. I’ve also not quite figured out what to do with the tiny nub when I reach the end, but maybe I will save them up and re-mold them or something. Overall I have been very pleased and I love not being dependent plastic bottled soap.
Cuts through grease extremely well. Doesn't lather quite the same as a liquid soap getting bubbly but is definitely still doing the job. I purchased the lemongrass scented soap, I think next time I'll go scentless. Overall I like the scent but there are times where I'm washing a piece of cutlery to use it right away and I can still smell the scent if I've only given it a quick rinse.
plastic free soap!
